Summary

The NZCEL qualifications have been designed to provide a national qualification for international learners of English as an additional language, which allows the community, employers and educational institutions to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for general or academic purposes.

Nationally recognised New Zealand qualification: NZCEL Academic Level 5. Listening skills, speaking skills, reading skills, writing skills, vocabulary, grammar development. Students have confidence to communicate independently and effectively in a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar situations with fluency and flexibility in professional and/or academic English language contexts. Direct entry to some Diploma, Degree, Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours Degree, Master’s Degree, and Doctoral Degree programmes (Level 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 tertiary study) on academic strand. Please check with your education provider for their entry policy for the programme you intend to study. Equivalent to IELTS range 6.5 to 7.5.

Entry criteria

  • Suitable for students with a General English level of Upper-Intermediate or above; Students have an IELTS score of 6.0 or via NSLS Placement test
