This English programme is designed to give you general English and study skills and is the first step in your English learning journey. You’ll learn how to communicate effectively in different situations; from the workplace, to community activities, to conversations with your friends and family.

  • NZ Certificate in Construction Trade Skills – Allied Trades
  • NZ Certificate in Construction Trade Skills – Carpentry
  • NZ Certificate in Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying

Where to from here?

Successful completion of this programme will allow you entry into the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Applied) (Level 3), as well as any other Unitec programme that requires IELTS 5.0, including select Level 3 Unitec Certificates.

Please note: International students who graduate will NOT be eligible for a post-study work visa upon completion of this programme.

Entry criteria

For this programme, you will need the following:

To be at least 16 years old by the time the programme starts
A New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) or equivalent, or achieve an appropriate score on Unitec's Language Studies English Language Placement Test.

English Language Requirements: IELTS – Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0; TOEFL – Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14); PTE - Academic score of 36 with no band score lower than 36.
