Summary

The University Foundation Certificate (Level 4) is a NZQA approved qualification. This qualification is a foundation pathway programme to Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Construction, Bachelor of Information Sciences, Bachelor of Aviation Management and Bachelor of Aviation Air Transport Pilot (with conditions) etc. at Massey University; Bachelor of Business at UNITEC; as well as other tertiary providers on case-by-case basis. The Foundation students will receive a welcome letter from Massey University and the Foundation graduates will be accepted by Massey University for entry to any of these bachelor programmes.

The programme is a stepping stone into the world of higher education, particularly for young international learners who don’t have the right qualifications to go straight onto a tertiary programme of study. The aim of this programme is to equip learners with the attributes, knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for higher level, including degree level studies, leading toward a chosen field of study or career pathway.

The programme is ideal for learners who are unsure about whether they want to go to university. They can get an understanding of their field of interest before progressing to a full degree programme. As well as subject knowledge, they will get used to the higher education context and gain the skills needed for higher level study. If they successfully complete the foundation programme, they can be accepted into the first year of a diploma or degree programme dependent on their chosen field of tertiary study based on the entry criteria for that programme.
