Summary

UCOL is one of three TOEFL iBT testing centres in New Zealand. The English Proficiency test is accepted for English language entry into all UCOL programmes. For over 50 years, the TOEFL test has been the world’s premier English language test. It is accepted by more than 9,000 organisations and tertiary institutions in 130 countries. Demonstrate your English language abilities by showing your TOEFL iBT qualification to your prospective employer or place of study, including UCOL. The test can also be used to meet student visa and migration English requirements. Test Format You’ll be tested on your reading, listening, speaking and writing, and will combine all these skills to summarise, evaluate and synthesise information. The test will take place via Internet at UCOL Manawatū. It will comprise: • 60 - 80 minutes of reading (read passages, then respond to questions) • 60 -90 minutes of listening (listen to brief lecturers or a classroom discussion, then respond to questions) • 20 minutes of speaking (using a microphone to speak about familiar topics, and also discuss material you read about and listened to) • 50 minutes of writing (read a passage, listen to a recording and then type your response) You can rest assured that the test is secure. It uses biometric voice identification software, and all test participants must show a valid and acceptable ID with your name, photograph and signature. In addition, security features such as encrypted test delivery ensure your information is protected.
