Enhance your undergraduate qualification with specialised knowledge to enable progression into an engineering masters programme.
Programme overview
This qualification gives students who have completed a three-year engineering degree the opportunity to build on their previous skills, and understand the principles, concepts and ideas that underpin a chosen specialisation. It is designed to provide a pathway to further study in a masters programme.
Programme structure
This is a 120-point, taught programme. You will complete six 15-point, non-project courses from one of the specialisations listed in the Master of Engineering Studies schedule.
An additional 30 points can be taken from approved 600 or 700 level courses at the University.
Courses are not available in the following specialisations:
Geotechnical Engineering
Light Metals Reduction Technology
Medical Devices and Technologies
Plastics
You'll also need to meet other requirements, including time limits and total points limits. See Postgraduate enrolment.
Where could this programme take you?
The PGDipEng functions largely as a pathway for further study – while it can generally increase employment opportunities, this qualification ultimately supplements your three-year undergraduate degree with the additional skills needed to pursue an engineering masters degree.
