Help individuals and families to reduce vulnerability and build resilience.
This programme is designed to equip you to work effectively as a social support worker in the health and wellbeing sector.
You'll acquire skills in the areas of family violence support and prevention, social justice advocacy, community development and refugee support, and learn how to engage and communicate with people in a way that respects their socio-cultural identity. During the programme you’ll also develop your capabilities in the areas of self-awareness, reflective practice and personal leadership.
As part of your studies, you’ll undertake 200 hours of workplace practice, giving you hands-on experience in addiction and mental health settings that will prepare you well for employment.
10 NCEA Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 NCEA Level 1 Numeracy credits.

New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) Ara Support Work and Social Work Pathway or equivalent

If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.

If you show that you have equivalent skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, you may be able to gain alternative entry.

IELTS test - Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5
SPEAKING - 5.0

TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) - Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE)
TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
