Summary

The New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology (Level 5) qualification will give you a broad understanding of the core concepts and practical skills in information technology.

This qualification will help you gain valuable fundamental concepts and foundation knowledge for the information technology and computing subject areas. You will be able to build on your existing IT skills from previous qualifications or relevant experience.

As a graduate of this programme, you will be able to apply the fundamentals of current and emerging concepts and practices in IT. You will also be able to demonstrate awareness of appropriate professional practice, and work as part of a team and independently, under broad supervision.

This qualification will give you a pathway to the undergraduate IT degree programme, if you meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree.

What you will learn

When you complete this programme you will be able to:

  • apply IT technical support concepts and practice to securely manage hardware, software and networking resources to support end users and meet security, ethical and organisational requirements
  • apply the fundamentals of information systems concepts and practice including business concepts, development life cycles, data modelling and administration to support and enhance organisational processes and systems
  • apply knowledge and concepts of business analysis, user experience and interface design to create accessible interactive digital media
  • apply the fundamental principles of software development, including fundamental mathematical and logical concepts that underpin computational and systems thinking, to plan, create, test and document simple working code
  • apply professional, legal, and ethical principles and practices in a socially responsible manner as an emerging IT professional
  • use your communication, personal and interpersonal skills to enhance effectiveness in an IT role
  • use problem-solving and decision making techniques to provide innovative and timely IT outcomes.

Entry criteria

To enter this programme you need to have NCEA Level 2 or Equivalent.

20 years old or over

If you are 20 years of age or over and do not hold the minimum entry requirements you will be eligible to be enrolled where your previous educational, work or life experience indicates you have a reasonable likelihood of success.

English language requirements

International students must also have an IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0, or equivalent.

Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skills.
