Gore High School is the largest Year 9-13 co-educational school in Eastern Southland. Founded in 1908, our school has a proud tradition and reputation that promotes educational excellence and high levels of achievement in all fields of endeavour.
We acknowledge the importance of our heritage and strive to preserve the traditions of the past, while building a contemporary foundation for our future. Staff and students at Gore High School are guided in their daily business by a shared belief in the traditional work ethic inherent in our school motto ‘Palma Non Sine Pulvere’ - No Reward Without Effort.
We take every opportunity to demonstrate and articulate our family-based values, which are centered around ‘Courtesy’ (‘Atawhaitanga’), ‘Effort’ (‘Manawanuitanga’), and ‘Responsibility’ (‘Takohanga’).
Our expectations are high. Every student and staff member is encouraged to do their very best in everything they do. Students grow in confidence and independence and leave well prepared to cope with the ever changing demands of life in modern times.

Gore High School welcomes the opportunity to enrol international students who are keen to experience the New Zealand education system, improve their English as well as gain New Zealand secondary school qualifications. We welcome international students at all year levels and encourages all students to become fully immersed in the life of the school. We foster a culture of innovation and excellence, underpinned by traditional values.
Students will benefit from small class sizes, enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, excellent pastoral care, outstanding facilities,
a strong academic programme, and a wide range of cultural and sporting activities.
Learning programmes include a wide range of subjects which they study alongside our Kiwi students and in so doing they
build friendships which in turn will help them to acquire conversational English. We offer English support programmes so that International students are given the necessary skills to succeed. An ESOL programme is available to all International Students studying towards IELTS.
