Henderson High School features the best of both worlds - the latest technology alongside traditional values in a modern, spacious and welcoming community environment, situated in park-like grounds near the beautiful Waitakere Mountains and world-famous beaches 20 kms from Auckland city. Local facilities include a train and bus transport hub, Arts Centre, Whoa Studios, Virtual Reality studio, movie theatres, parks, vineyards, a sports complex and shopping mall all close to school and homestay accommodation.
Our school is a signatory to The Code of Practice and a member of SIEBA ensuring strong guidance and pastoral care. A large part of the application process is devoted to gathering information so we can make the most suitable home stay placement. All homestay families are visited regularly and police checked. Students and parents can contact the host families before arrival to be acquainted before being met at the airport and transferred to the homestay. The Director arranges orientation, and is the 24/7 contact to help with any problems. The International Room is a multi-purpose information centre, meeting place for buddies, and Wi-Fi study room before and after school.
We offer the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) qualification in years 11-13. In 2019 our results were again well above average (Level 1 90.1%, Level 2 96.6% and Level 3 92.4% ) Students' courses are selected from core and non-traditional options according to their individual strengths and goals for the future, and progress is tracked by regular monitoring and academic counselling. Extra tutorials and ESOL are available for those needing extra English support. There are many opportunities to interact with other students and compete with other schools and groups in Science, Sports, Arts, Business, Math and Technology, building leadership skills and friendships.
