Summary

EMPOWERING GIRLS TO LEARN, LIVE AND LEAD

St Margaret's College offers a unique education for girls from Years 0 through to 13 for boarding and day pupils with a strong emphasis on co-curricular opportunities and pastoral care as well as academic success. Programmes are customised to the specific learning needs of girls at every age and stage ensuring each reaches her full potential. Our girls are given every opportunity to flourish and be prepared for success in an ever-changing world. Our pastoral care and spirituality-based programmes build resilient young people who relate well, and who have the confidence and empathy to build meaningful and lasting relationships.

Independent research shows both boys and girls achieve higher academic success in single-sex schools. We are proud of our girls' achievements in the 2020 academic results with a 100% pass for International Baccalaureate and one of the highest pass rates in New Zealand for NCEA (Level 1 - 98%, Level 2 - 99%, Level 3 - 99%, UE - 98%). We offer many opportunities for our girls to interact with their male counterparts on both an academic, performing arts, sports and social basis, while holding on to the best daily learning environment.

More about St Margaret's College

St Margaret’s College is a multicultural community, spanning from Asia to Africa, the Pacific and Europe including girls from five to eighteen years old, boarders and day-girls, sportswomen, musicians, writers, mathematicians, actresses, orators, budding physicists as well as politicians in the making and would-be global ambassadors.

St Margaret’s values the cultural and global dimension that students from around the world bring to the college. Our international students are integrated into all school classes, and where appropriate, receive additional support in specific areas of the curriculum. Girls come to our school from many different countries. They are actively encouraged to experience and participate in the rich sporting cultural and social life of the school and the city.

St Margaret’s College is the only girls’ school in the South Island where your daughter can choose to study for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Our international student graduates leave school with qualifications to gain entrance to the best universities in New Zealand and around the world.

The IB programme is well established at St Margaret’s. It is a two-year course that espouses the best aspects of international education. It is acknowledged by universities worldwide as an excellent pre-university qualification and gives graduates an in-depth understanding of the importance of the international nature of knowledge in both the humanities and the sciences.

The IB is taught in more than 130 countries and has earned a fine reputation around the world. St Margaret’s is the only school in Christchurch to offer the IB Diploma.

The NCEA is the New Zealand qualification framework for students in the Senior School. Assessment for the qualification is both internal with inter-school moderation and by public examination for each subject.
