Tararua College




Tararua College is a co-educational rural high school of 330 students aged between 13-18 years. It is situated in Pahiatua serves an area from Mt Bruce in the south to Papatawa and Kumeroa Hopelands in the north east.

The College is situated on a tree filled campus with modern specialised facilities. 

A wide range of academic and vocational subjects are offered.   All senior courses are registered with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Senior students work towards national qualifications (NCEA) recognised by all New Zealand universities and tertiary institutes. The College also offers tertiary linked courses. For example Hospitality, Retail, Travel and Tourism, Automotive Engineering, Building and Construction and Primary Industries.

All international students are encouraged to participate in the sporting and cultural activities that are offered by the school. 

Tararua College endeavours to provide a safe, positive and supportive environment where emphasis is placed on positive relationships. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their behaviour assisted through restorative practices.

There is a strong support, guidance and well-being network that is designed to meet the academic, emotional and social needs of all students.

At Tararua College we believe in an holistic approach to teaching our students.  Yes academic focus is important, but so too are the cultural and sporting areas that provide engagement for our students.
Our goal is to support every child to ensure that they reach their own level of personal excellence, whether academically,  in sport or in the cultural arena.  Our supportive staff develop strong learning focused relationships with all our students.
The College is developing Collaborative Projects that drive connections for students between traditional subject areas.  Flexible learning approaches and curriculum personalisation are the core focus for the College as we move forwards.
Our vision is to maintain and develop a College that is at the heart of the community, supporting our students and their whanau to be the best that they can be.  The College is a family friendly environment that welcomes difference and enhances personal and social skills.
