On behalf of the board, staff and students we welcome International Students to our school. Whanganui City College is a co-educational school situated in the heart of Whanganui City with approximately 330 students. Founded in 1911, our school symbol ‘Te Kura o Te Manawa, the school with heart’ reflects our school philosophy; students and their families are central to the school community. We care for and nurture every international student in our school and encourage all students to participate in extra-curricular activities such as sport, music or cultural groups. We pride ourselves on our warm and friendly school and in providing a safe and welcoming environment for all new students.
We offer complete peace of mind to our international parents. Our homestay families are carefully selected and look forward to hosting you. A new, warm family on the other side of the world awaits you. You will have your own bedroom and typically homestay brothers and/or sisters. We also offer accommodation in our small, on campus co-educational hostel, Millennium House.
Wanganui is a small city with a population of 45,000 people, situated on the west coast of the North Island alongside the picturesque Whanganui River. Wanganui is a small, safe community, with many amenities focussed on providing pastimes for the district's teenagers. The climate in Wanganui is very temperate, making it attractive all year round. The flight from Auckland to Wanganui is only one hour and we meet all students at Wanganui Airport.
