Huntley School

Summary

Huntley is an independent preparatory school catering for boys and girls in years 3-8. It is located in Marton, within 30 minutes' drive of Palmerston North and Wanganui.

We provide a school culture in which children can be children, and are kept busy and active. A Huntley education is a complete, well rounded learning experience that is about more than just academics and sport. Huntley instils confidence and a readiness for whatever comes next.

Despite all the changes that have occurred within our education system, technology and society itself, Huntley has stayed true to its belief that children need grounding in the vital basics of academic learning and life skills to carry them through their transformation into young adults and onto secondary school. We strike a balance between traditional learning and the use of digital technology. Devices are used to assist with student’s learning, but not to be the learning.  

Some of the features of the Huntley education are:

• Small classes; no more than 22 students.
• Specialist teachers in Art, Music, Technology, Woodwork and Science with purpose built facilities.
• Exposure to learning a new language.
• An emphasis on literacy and numeracy. Over 50% of lessons are taught in these two core subjects.
• Supervised homework (prep) four nights a week.
• Streamed classes in years 7 and 8.
• Academic extension programmes where appropriate.
• Academic support for those students requiring extra help.
