Welcome to New Zealand scholarship

Eligibility Criteria

This years’ Welcome to New Zealand Scholarship marks the anniversary of 70 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and New Zealand. New Zealand is open to international students and we look forward to welcoming you. The country with one of the best education system in the world awards scholarships to those wishing to undertake studies at a New Zealand university of their choice or Te Pūkenga (New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology).

The scholarships are aimed at students who are interested in spending a semester abroad or studying for a full degree (bachelor's or master's) at a New Zealand university or Te Pūkenga. We are looking for candidates who, in addition to their enthusiasm for New Zealand, also have an exceptional CV - be it because they are particularly talented, particularly committed, or simply exceptional for other reasons.

The grants

The Welcome to New Zealand scholarships are worth up to €8,000 and enable you to study at one of New Zealand's top world-class education providers. The scholarship covers part or the entire tuition fees (depending on the programme) for students wishing to do a semester abroad in the winter or summer semester of 2024. We will award one scholarship of €8,000 and six scholarships of €2,500.

The conditions

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

• German citizens and those who have their main residence in Germany
• Be at least 18 years old at the time of application
• Applicants are required to demonstrate an advanced level of English to be able to take courses in New Zealand.

Value period: 1 year

How to apply?

The application

You can apply for the Welcome to New Zealand Scholarship online using the application form. Your application will only be accepted in English. Applications in other languages cannot be considered.

If you already have a letter of offer from a New Zealand institution, please upload it via the application form. It is not necessary to have an offer of study/letter of offer at a university in New Zealand at the time of application. However, a letter of offer is required for the payment of the scholarship. Video or text

Create a short video OR write a short text introducing yourself and explaining why you are the ideal candidate for the Welcome to New Zealand scholarship. Show us why you're a fan of New Zealand and its universities. Also, tell us why you should receive a scholarship and why you are exceptional.

Statements can be submitted in the following formats:

• Video (maximum 1:00 minutes)
• Letter of motivation (maximum 1,000 characters, including spaces)

Selection process

• You must apply for the scholarship by 29 September, 2023
• The winners will be announced in October 2023
