Summary

Introduction

UC's Master of Hōaka Pounamu | Māori Bilingual and Immersion Teaching and Learning (MHP) is an ideal programme for teachers, leaders, and education researchers to raise the knowledge of te reo Māori in bilingual, immersion, and mainstream settings. The courses are designed to extend your knowledge on the use of te reo Māori in the classroom.

Be a part of language revitalisation for Aotearoa and help immerse mātauranga and te reo Māori into everyday learning.

Education Workforce study awards are also available for this programme.

Entry criteria

Entry requirements

To enrol in the MHP, you will need to have either:

  • an Aotearoa teaching degree
  • any bachelor's degree with a major in Education or related subject, with at least a B Grade Average
  • a three-year diploma in Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary Teaching
  • equivalent study from other approved degrees.

The selection process also involves a hui with the Programme Coordinator to assess your level of te reo Māori fluency and ensure you will be able to succeed in your study.

If English is not your first language, you are also required to meet UC's Postgraduate language requirements. See how to provide your English language evidence to UC. If you need help meeting these requirements, or would like to practise your English skills before studying, UC offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) language programmes.

For the full entry requirements, see the Regulations for the Master of Hōaka Pounamu | Māori Bilingual and Immersion Teaching and Learning or use the admission requirements checker.
