Summary

The Master of Information Technology at Whitecliffe offers a dynamic, industry-relevant curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience and creativity. By drawing on Whitecliffe’s art legacy, the programme encourages you to approach IT solutions with an innovative mindset, making you not just technically skilled but also a creative problem-solver.

Taught over one year, the Master of Information Technology prepares you for the complex and multifaceted challenges of a specialised IT career. The flexible blended delivery - distance and online learning, complemented by some in-person seminars - means you can balance your studies with work and life commitments whether you’re a recent graduate or an experienced professional.

By guiding you through the research methods, skills, and technology management needed to embark on your chosen specialism, either Data Science or Cyber Security, our programme builds towards the final major project which focuses on real-world solutions to real-world problems.

Structured across three trimesters, the programme starts with two compulsory courses (Research Methods and Skills and Technology Management) and two electives (chosen from Cyber Security, Data Analysis, Machine Learning, and Ubiquitous Computing and Intelligent Systems). The second trimester deepens your area of expertise with further electives and a ‘specialised topic’ course, often in a unique and emerging field and potentially leading to publication or contributing towards your final project. The final trimester is dedicated to this capstone project, immersing you in research and practical application aligned with your interests and career goals.

Whitecliffe’s strong industry connections mean you gain exposure to real-world projects, internships, and employment opportunities, giving you a competitive edge in the job market.

As New Zealand’s only EC-Council Academic Partner, Whitecliffe offers pathways to industry certifications alongside your master’s degree. You’ll be equipped with a highly sought-after toolkit of creativity, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and ready to contribute to the tech sector as entrepreneurs, researchers, or tech leaders.

In short, the programme’s structure builds progressively, starting with foundational research and management skills, then moving into specialised knowledge, and culminating in the application of this knowledge to solve real-world problems.
