Summary
The Master of Impact and Innovation prepares you to lead change in complex and rapidly evolving environments. You'll develop advanced capability in transdisciplinary thinking, combining disciplinary knowledge with diverse perspectives – including Indigenous and community knowledge – to generate new insights and approaches to real-world challenges.
Through core study and your chosen area of focus, you will build the ability to work across systems and sectors, navigate uncertainty and ambiguity and co-design innovative responses. The qualification emphasises ethical practice, collaboration across cultures and contexts and a commitment to equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and future wellbeing.
You can specialise in Climate Futures, Future Food or Planetary Health with the addition of the Circular Economies specialisation in 2028. Alternatively, you can select courses from across these areas and study without a specialisation.
Applied learning and real-world impactA defining feature of the qualification is the opportunity to apply your learning in practice. You will complete a significant applied component through a capstone project, work-integrated learning within an organisation or an independent research report. This experience enables you to integrate theory and practice, engage with real challenges and critically reflect on your work and its impact.

Admission to MasseyAll students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.
Specific requirementsAdmission to the degree of Master of Impact and Innovation requires that the candidate will:
- meet the University admission requirements as specified; and
- have been awarded or qualified for Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification having achieved a minimum B grade average, as calculated over courses defined in the Postgraduate General Regulations; or
- have been awarded or qualified for the Postgraduate Diploma in Impact and Innovation or and equivalent qualification.
To study this qualification you must meet Massey University's English language standards.
Time limits for Honours, Distinction and MeritWhere your qualification is completed within the stated time limit and to a high standard, you may be able to graduate with a class of Honours, Distinction or Merit.
