The Master of Speech and Language Pathology (MSLP) is a graduate-entry professional qualification that enables graduates to practice as a speech language pathologist/therapist. Students generally have a background in science, linguistics, engineering, psychology, education, or health sciences, and this programme provides an opportunity to enter the speech-language profession in New Zealand.
In the MSLP, you will study the areas of clinical linguistics, evidence-based practice, introductory neuroscience, speech and language development and disorders across the lifespan, typical and atypical hearing, swallowing, fluency and voice, and professional practice.
This hands-on programme includes clinical practice experience.
The MSLP is accredited by Te Kāhui Kaiwhakatikatika Reo Kōrero o Aotearoa | New Zealand Speech–language Therapists' Association.
Subjects and CoursesTo apply for the MSLP you must have previously completed any bachelor's or master's degree, with a minimum of a B Grade Point Average (or other qualifications of an equivalent standard). Within your degree you must have passed at least one course in Statistics, at 100-level or above.
If English is not your first language, you must also provide proof of IELTS (Academic) average of at least 7.0, with no score lower than 6.5. See how to provide your English language evidence to UC. If you need help meeting these requirements, UC offers an English for Academic Purposes (EAP 2) course.
Selection for entry to the degree is based on academic merit, a statement of interest, and an interview with departmental representatives.
For the full entry requirements, see the Regulations for the Master of Speech and Language Pathology or use the admission requirements checker.
