Applied Data Analytics – Master Degree, Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate

Entry Requirements Academic Entry Requirements

The academic entry requirement for the Master of Applied Data Analytics (240), Master of Applied Data Analytics (180), Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Data Analytics and the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Data Analytics is one of the following:

• an NZQCF-listed undergraduate degree (or equivalent) which has a quantitative focus5 with a minimum of the equivalent to a B minus (B-) average in the final year of study (as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system)

or

• a Bachelor Honours or Postgraduate degree which has a quantitative focus with 120 credits at Level 8

or

• a degree or equivalent professional (quantitative-focused) qualification with a minimum of the equivalent to a B minus (B-) average in the final year of study (as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system) and/or verifiable evidence of quantitative experience at degree level, and assessment from the programme coordinator

or

• at the Dean’s discretion, where an applicant’s situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above.

5 A degree or equivalent professional qualification is deemed to have a quantitative focus if it includes substantial coursework in mathematics, statistics, data analytics, programming, or quantitative research methods, and demonstrates the applicant’s ability to apply quantitative reasoning to solve real-world problems. This is typically evidenced through multiple courses with mathematical or analytical content or through an applied quantitative research project.

A degree or equivalent (verified) professional qualification will be treated as quantitatively focused if the applicant completed:

• At least three (3) courses where quantitative reasoning was a significant component,

OR

• One advanced course involving applied statistics, computation, or modelling

OR

• A research project/industry placement that required quantitative analysis

Admission as an individual to a master’s degree is based on the evaluation of documentary evidence (including the academic record) of the individual applicant’s ability to undertake postgraduate study in this field. Ākonga can staircase through the qualifications, e.g. enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate and subsequently apply to have any credits gained transferred to either the diploma or master’s if they wish to upgrade their chosen qualification pathway.

1.2 English Language Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. For international ākonga, ways in which English language fluency may be demonstrated include the following:

• successful study of a programme in which English was the language of instruction (subject to the conditions in EIT’s Database for English Language Proficiency (DELP))
• completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 5 (Academic)
• IELTS Academic score of 6.5, with no band score lower than 6, achieved in a single test within the two years preceding enrolment
• accepted international equivalents to the above IELTS scores (see equivalency tables in the DELP).

An international ākonga must be in possession of an appropriate visa for the duration of their programme.

1.3 Credit Recognition

The provisions and procedures for recognising prior knowledge and skills through cross credit, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning in this programme are set out in EIT’s Academic Regulatory Framework (ARF) and the associated policy set (AG118 in the QMS).

For a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Data Analytics candidate, a maximum of 30 specified credits may be awarded towards courses in this programme. Any credit recognition towards the Work Integrated learning course must be obtained from a project in the field of Data Analytics.

For a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Data Analytics candidate, a maximum of 60 credits may be awarded towards courses in this programme. Any credit recognition towards the Work Integrated learning course must be obtained from a project in the field of Data Analytics.

For an Applied Data Analytics Master’s Degree candidate, a maximum of 90 credits may be awarded toward courses in this programme, including a maximum of 30 unspecified credits, with the remainder specified. Any unspecified credit awarded must contribute directly to the Graduate Profile. Any credit recognition towards the Work Integrated learning course must be obtained from a project in the field of Data Analytics. There is no credit recognition for Level 9 courses as per the regulations in the ARF.

All applications for credit recognition require support from the Programme Coordinator and approval by the Postgraduate Cluster Committee.
