The Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 5) will produce graduates who demonstrate the ability to: consider and compare theoretical concepts and perspectives in relation to early childhood education and child development, and use them to inform their practice; reflect on their own practice and use feedback to enhance their performance; understand the importance of, and contribute to, planning effectively within the framework of Te Whariki and the subject knowledge detailed in the New Zealand Curriculum Framework; use their understanding of the socio-cultural context to inform their teaching practice and to function positively in a multicultural environment with children, families, whanau and communities; consider the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and tikanga Maori and apply them in their own practice; create a loving, caring and nurturing environment for infants and toddlers to foster their development; demonstrate best practice to promote childrens learning; establish a secure physical and emotional environment that encourages positive outcomes for children; demonstrate appropriate professional practice; communicate effectively with children, whanau, colleagues and the community; maintain relationships of trust, cooperation and respect with children, whanau, parents and colleagues; use information technology within the context of early childhood education; and, accept responsibility for their continued learning and professional development.
