The practical focus of this degree increases the chances of employment when students graduate, and the small class sizes help to build strong one-on-one learning relationships with tutors.? The flexible structure allows students to choose from a range of majors and a wide variety of elective modules.
Major in Accounting
In this pathway students will learn the theory and practice of accountancy, critical thinking, decision-making and business analysis. The course also includes financial reports and business tax regulations. Before they graduate, students will complete an accounting project for a real business as their final assignment. There are two Accounting pathways to choose from - the non-CAANZ/CPA pathway, which has greater flexibility, or the CAANZ/CPA pathway, which allows potential to become a Chartered Accountant.
CAANZ/CPA pathway
This Accounting pathway allows graduates to be become a Chartered Accountant. This comes with a range of benefits and networks in New Zealand and around the world including membership in 11 countries like the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, USA and Japan. CAANZ is recognised in 165 countries as a member of the Global Accounting Alliance.
Graduates will be a finance, accounting and business professional as a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA). The CPA qualification focuses on strategy, leadership and global business skills, giving you the edge you need in today's dynamic business environment.
The CAANZ?/CPA pathway is very structured, which means students will be taking core modules each year of their degree and will be unable to study for a second major.
These core modules will give students a breadth and depth of skill to let them work as an accountant all over the world. In their third year students will also apply their skills on an industry project with a local business.
Accounting - non-CAANZ/CPA pathway
Since it's more flexible, students have the option to study for a second major. In their first year, students will complete the eight core modules required for the Applied Management degree. These will provide the important broad skills needed to excel in any area of business. For the second year students will take three accounting major courses and choose three other courses, which can be used toward a second major. Students will also take the Applied Management and Research Methodology core modules.
