Effective management responds to the needs of people, processes, and technology. This Master's programme brings together theory, applied practice and research, designed to develop advanced knowledge and skills in applied management.

Developed to ensure you study a broad range of business areas, you will cover eight professional competencies that represent technical skills with two areas of focus and three pathway options.

Our Coursework pathway has a broad range of modules from which you can select to develop your professional knowledge and skills further. This pathway further emphasises the opportunity to apply theory and knowledge in the workplace and to focus on an aspect of management through the completion of a range of applied research projects.

Entry criteria

General admission

The academic entry requirement for the Master of Applied Management (240) is one of the following:

  • an NZQF-listed undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of a pass (as per the EIT 11 point grading system specified in the ARF);
  • at the Dean's discretion, where an applicant's situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above.

The academic entry requirement for the Master of Applied Management (180) is one of the following:

The academic entry requirement for the Master of Applied Management (180) is one of the following:* an NZQF-listed undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification with a minimum of the equivalent to a B- (B minus) average (as per the EIT-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system specified in the ARF) or evidence of professional experience at degree level, subject to assessment; or

  • a Bachelor Honours or Postgraduate degree with 120 credits at Level 8; or
  • at the Dean's discretion, where an applicant's situation is compelling but not covered by the requirements listed above.

[A Master of Applied Management applicant who does not meet the entry criteria above may be admitted to the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Management and, upon successful completion of four courses (with a minimum B minus average) from the Schedule to the Regulations, be admitted to the Master of Applied Management.
